Stumped for a Mother’s Day gift? The big day is Sunday and the clock is ticking. Officials with the non-profit group Iowa Foundation for Medical Care have an idea for an easy, inexpensive present which shows you care.Peg Mason is the Foundation’s Director of Government Quality Improvement Programs. She says people can simply put a note in their Mother’s Day card promising to cover the co-payment for a mammogram. Mason says mammograms are something some women shun, but they’re potential lifesavers.Women over 40 have a one-in-217 chance of getting breast cancer. At age 70, the odds are one-in-14. Mason says the promise to meet a co-payment on a mammogram isn’t going to set you back anymore than a nice bouquet of flowers and a box of candy. The co-payment is usually 15 to 25 dollars. She says the earlier breast cancer is detected, the greater the chance of survival.
