Governor declares Black Hawk and Buchanan Counties disaster areas

Governor Vilsack has declared Black Hawk and Buchanan counties state disaster areas after several tornadoes struck last night. The state declaration allows state resources to be used to help the counties.Vilsack says various state agencies will be involved in the clean up and assessment of the damage.Vilsack says it is too early to estimate the dollar amount of damages.Vilsack toured an area around Dunkerton and later got an aerial view of the damage. He says he saw homes devastated and damage to farm structures. Vilsack says many people lost everything.
