Davenport police chief cuts deal to step down

May 16, 2000 By admin

Davenport’s top cop has cut a deal with the city council after two years of controversy with the Mayor and cops in his own department who issued a vote of “no confidence” in their chief two years ago. Chief Steve Lynn has agreed to be reassigned as sergeant of the criminal investigation division for the next two years. Lynn will get a severance package of 16-thousand dollars to make up the difference in salary. He’ll also get 24-thousand dollars to help train his replacement. The council has named an acting chief, but hasn’t said what they will do to permanently replace Lynn. The out-going chief was criticized by Davenport’s Mayor last month for an incident in which a Davenport cop admitted he’d been drinking before wrecking a city car. Police officers on the accident scene did not make the cop submit to an alcohol breath test.
