Iowa baseball future rests on young arms

May 17, 2000 By admin

The Iowa baseball team closed out the season last weekend by splitting a four-game Big Ten series at Michigan. The Hawks finished 19-35 overall and 11-17 in conference play and missed out on the final spot into the Big Ten tournament. Iowa coach Scott Broghamer says with a young squad, he feels the program is headed in the right direction.Broghamer says the key part of the Big Ten race for the Hawkeyes came in mid-April when they suffered back-to-back sweeps at the hands of Penn State and Minnesota.Broghamer says the pitching was greatly improved this year and that gives them hope for improvement next year.
