An Iowan is one of 50 state legislators who announced a bipartisan women’s health care campaign today in Washington, D.C. JoAnn Johnson, a republican state senator from Adel, is part of the “Women in Government” group.Johnson says they’re trying to highlight the fact that women don’t get the same health care treatment as men. Johnson says the differences in treatment are often dramatic. She says the biggest disparity comes in the treatment of heart disease. Women are 60 percent more likely to die within a year following a heart attack, but she says they’re two times less likely to have bypass or angioplasty surgery.Johnson says they hope to make changes on the national and state level. She says they’ll push presidential candidates to address the issue and also work on it in state legislatures.Women legislators from 30 states attended today’s announcement in Washington.
