Wisconsin woman faces charges in baby abandonment

May 19, 2000 By admin

A new mother from Wisconsin could be in legal trouble in Iowa. The unidentified woman was headed for Milwaukee from California last week when she went into labor on the road & had her baby at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, Iowa on Saturday. She left with a man and without the newborn on Sunday. Newton Police were ready to file abandonment charges but say the woman has called now to claim the baby but didn’t say when she’d be back to pick it up. The baby has traces of an unidentified drug in its system which could bring child endangerment charges.
