Drake University is mourning the death of women’s track and cross country coach Gary Osborn (oz-born). The 56-year-old Osborn died of a heart attack Sunday at his home near Des Moines, just hours after returning from the Missouri Valley Conference track meet in Wichita. Steve Carter served as Osborn’s assistant coach. Osborn spent the last 32 years on the Drake coaching staff and Carter says he was highly regarded in the coaching fraternity. Carter says his primary concern right now is for the members of the women’s track team. Osborn guided the Drake women to Missouri Valley cross country titles in 1994, 1995 and 1998.
