Ecstasy drug targeted in new legislation

May 23, 2000 By admin

Penalties for trafficking the drug Ecstasy would be hiked under a bill being co-introduced today by Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley. He says that drug is being heavily marketed toward teenagers in upscale areas of the U-S as a “safe” alternative to other drugs, but Grassley says it’s far from safe. The bipartisan measure would raise the penalties for dealing Ecstasy to a level equal to dealing methamphetamine. It would also pay for an anti-drug media campaign that would focus on Ecstasy.
