Purdue University officials plan a news conference later this morning — and it’s expected Iowa State University President Martin Jischke (jiss’-kee) will be introduced as the school’s new boss. Frank Stork is executive secretary of the Board of Regents, the board which governs Iowa State and the other state universities. Stork says Jischke has done a great job in improving undergraduate education and attracting private dollars to finance research. Stork says if Jischke leaves, the Board first will appoint an acting I-S-U president. Then, the board will launch a nationwide search for a successor to Jischke. The board will appoint a search committee, and a private search firm may even be hired. Stork says he wasn’t surprised Jischke was under consideration for the top job at Purdue which is a land grant university, like Iowa State. Jischke has been on the job in Ames nearly 10 years. He had previously served as president of the University of Missouri-Rolla.
