Census bureau officials estimate 74 percent of Iowans sent in their Census survey forms — the best return rate in the nation. U-S Census Bureau spokesman Chris Nolte says Iowa’s response rate was well-above the national average.Nolte says about five-thousand Iowans are hitting the streets now, hoping to count the Iowans who didn’t return their surveys.Nolte says there are several reasons why one-quarter of Iowa’s population failed to return a census form. For example, many addresses were inaccurate.By law, ALL the information given to the Census Bureau IS confidential.Henning says another reason for the response rate is Americans are busier today.Nolte says the Waterloo, Davenport and Sioux City areas had exceptional response rates, while Des Moines lagged behind.
