Iowa Congressman Tom Latham calls the China trade bill that passed the U-S House yesterday “the most significant legislation of this Congress. He says it will bring huge benefits to farmers.Latham, a republican from Alexander, says the normalization of trade relations with China will give that nation a better example to follow on the humanitarian level.Congressman Leonard Boswell, the only Iowa democrat in the U-S House, joined with Republicans in supporting permanent trade relations with China. Boswell hopes the bill will quickly be approved by the Senate. The legislation heads to the Senate, where Iowa democrat Tom Harkin says it may not go to a vote until after the July 4th break. Harkin is still undecided on the China trade issue. Harkin says it’s safe to predict the trade bill -will- pass the Senate.
