High gas prices won’t hurt holiday travel

May 26, 2000 By admin

Triple-A officials say higher pump prices won’t have much of an effect on the number of travelers on Iowa roadways. Triple-A spokesman Daren Van Helden says 34-million Americans are expected to venture at least 100 miles from home this weekend. Van Helden says there’s more federal spending on highways, so cross-country travelers will face more construction zone delays. Eighty additional troopers are patrolling Iowa highways this weekend, focusing on speeders and seat belt violations.
