Senator says Europeans privately support genetic research on food

Senator Charles Grassley’s in Europe, attending North Athletic Treaty Organization or NATO meetings. Grassley says European politicians at the negotiating table aren’t ready to quit complaining about hormones and genetic modification in U-S food. Grassley says privately, Europeans concede there must be biotech advances in order to feed the growing global population — and Grassley believes science is the answer. Grassley asked the Europeans why they accept biotech advances in pharmaceuticals, but not in food. He says they don’t have an answer. Grassley says producers, processors and retailers have to show the Europeans that they have a safe product.Grassley’s leading the U-S Delegation at the NATO parliament meeting which attracted up to 45 countries. On another ag matter, Grassley is critical of the U-S-D-A’s delay in granting farmers permission to use Conservation Reserve acres as hay or grazing space for livestock.
