Older drivers could face more restictions

June 2, 2000 By admin

A new report finds older drivers are twice as likely to have a car accident when making a left-hand turn. Iowa Department of Transportation safety expert Scott Falb says the aging process is to blame.Falb says depth perception decreases with age, so your ability to judge the distance of vehicles and their speed diminishes. The report found older drivers are four-times more likely to be killed in left-turn crash. There is now a “graduated” system in Iowa for younger drivers. For example, it restricts young teens’ driving hours. Falb says older drivers can be subject to similar restrictions.
