The U-S Agriculture Department has agreed to some emergency help for farmers in 21 central and southern Iowa Counties hit by the drought. The Ag Department has agreed to let farmers graze cattle on their Conservation Reserve Program or C-R-P acres. State and Congressional representatives from Iowa requested the move due to a shortage of forage for the cattle created by the dry weather. The grazing was approved for Adair, Adams, Appanoose, Clarke, Crawford, Dallas, Davis, Freemont, Guthrie, Hardin, Harrison, Lucas, Monona, Monroe, Montgomery, Page, Shelby, Story, Taylor, Union and Wayne Counties. Cattle producers in those counties should check with their local Farm Service Agency Office to apply for the emergency grazing.
