This spring’s dry weather has foiled one farm tool — herbicide. Iowa Department of Agriculture deputy Brent Halling says you can see for yourself in Iowa corn and bean fields which are dense with weeds.Halling says weeds have to be dealt with, as they rob water and hide the sun from young corn and bean plants.Halling says it’s just another added expense for farmers, and while the prediction of a widespread drought may bolster prices, Halling says that’s little comfort. He says some farmers may have no crop of very little.Halling says some farm chemical companies are offering farmers price breaks for a second-application of a different kind of herbicide.
