An Iowa State University population expert warns of the importance of finding jobs for immigrants if the state decides to focus on drawing people from other nations to Iowa. Members of the Governor’s Strategic Planning Council suggest a variety of ways to attract immigrants, like getting a special federal declaration. But I-S-U professor Willis Gowdy says immigration is directly related to whether there are jobs. Gowdy says most immigrants from other countries take blue collar jobs.
