The State Trooper who let football star Kurt Warner off the hook for a speeding ticket could face disciplinary action. Warner was in Des Moines last month for a ceremony to retire his Iowa Barnstormers jersey. During a news conference, Warner told about being let out of the speeding ticket to illustrate the fame he’s attained since winning the Superbowl as the quarterback of the St. Louis Rams. The State Patrol says Sergeant Randy Jones has admitted he stopped Warner in March on Highway 218 in Henry County. The Q-B was doing 74 miles-an-hour in a 55 mile-an-hour zone. Jones issued Warner a warning after recognizing the Superbowl M-V-P. The State Patrol statement indicates Troopers can use discretion when writing tickets, but it’s NOT their policy to issue a warning for someone going 19 miles an hour over the speed limit. The Patrol will conduct an internal investigation to determine if Jones broke any rules in the Warner stop. The Patrol says the issue is a personnel matter and it will not release any information about possible disciplinary action against Trooper Jones.
