Iowa’s top lawmaker involved in Microsoft decision

June 8, 2000 By admin

Iowa’s Attorney General was in Washington, D-C, for yesterday’s court announcement which calls for dividing computer giant Microsoft into two companies. Attorney General Tom Miller calls the decision “strong, fair and measured.” Miller says Microsoft managers bullied competitors and ignored warnings. Miller says consumers will benefit from the break-up of Microsoft, just as consumers got cheaper phone bills with the break-up of A-T-and-T. Nineteen states, including Iowa, joined in the lawsuit against Microsoft. Microsoft chairman Bill Gates is appealing the judge’s ruling. Gates says it sets a dangerous precedent and allows government to take away what businesses create if it’s too popular.
