A federal program that helps communities prepare for disaster is expanding to include individuals. Kim Fuller — Public Affairs Director for the Federal Emergency Management Agency — says FEMA wants to get everyone prepared for disaster through a program called “Project Impact.” She says a survey found that 81-percent of people thought they were prepared when they weren’t.Fuller is asking all Iowans to do a survey to determine what risks they may face, things such as flooding or tornadoes.She says making some changes to your home can save money and lives.Fuller says FEMA has paid out 25-BILLION dollars to help people repair and rebuild from natural disasters in the last ten years. She says that cost can be cut dramatically if you take a little time now and do what you can to make your home disaster resistant.
