Iowa Department of Transportation officials say the multi-million dollar plan to rebuild Interstate-235 through Des Moines will go on as planned. City leaders in Des Moines and surrounding suburbs balked when the D-O-T told them they’d have to pay to relocate utilities for the project. Project Manager Marty Sankey says moving water lines and sewers will cost up to 80 million dollars. Sankey says the project’s on schedule, and he hopes to get an agreement on the utility issue soon. The D-O-T is putting up $426 million dollars for the project, not including the disputed utility work. The expansion of MacVicar Freeway in Des Moines should be complete by 2006 according to Sankey.
