Most crops were spared in yesterday’s storms, and southwest Iowa farmers are rejoicing as their fields have been parched for much of the growing season.I-S-U extension crop specialist Carroll Olsen says if there are timely rains in the next two weeks, the corn will respond. Parts of Mills, Fremont and Pottawattamie in southwest Iowa received three to four inches of rain yesterday. Olsen says the rain comes at the beginning of a big growth-spurt for corn, while a couple of overcast days will be good for the soybean crop.Olsen says the drought, however, is by no means over in southern Iowa. A couple of soybean fields were wiped out in Harrison County, near Logan, yesterday by a tornado.
