Map shows state bike paths

June 14, 2000 By admin

Iowa’s two-wheeling enthusiasts have a new tool to find their way around the state. The Iowa Department of Transportation has released its first-ever Iowa Bicycle Map. It details hundreds of miles of bike trails through woodlands, prairies and parks. Iowa D-O-T transportation planner Kathy Ridnour says 100,000 special bike maps have been printed and are available for free. Roads are color-coded according to traffic levels and the map has a list of annual bicycling events in Iowa. The maps can be obtained by calling (515) 239-1713 or through the Internet at www.dot.ia.us/bikemap.htm.
