Displaced Jasper County workers could get state jobs

June 15, 2000 By admin

Officials from several state agencies are heading to Newton today to meet with workers of the Jasper County Care Facility. The Jasper County Board of Supervisors voted to close the facility and state officials want its 130 employees to fill worker gaps in state agencies. Iowa Department of Personnel Bureau Chief Mary Ann Hills says the Newton trip is the start of a proactive effort by the state to fill vacancies in state departments. With record-low state unemployment, Hills says they’re always looking for good workers. She says there are certain positions in state government that’re harder to fill. State officials will be at the Jasper County facility from 9 a-m until 4 p-m today to talk with workers.
