Buchanan County deputy injured in crash

A Buchanan County sheriff’s deputy was badly hurt in a two-car accident near Winthrop on Sunday. The squad car collided with another car on Highway 939. 33-year-old Deputy Joe Swinghammer was taken to an Independence hospital and later transferred to Waterloo. A passenger in the other car was hurt. Swinghammer’s condition is not being released. The other man was treated and released.
