An eastern Iowa teenager has died from a rare disease. A Linn County teen was put in the hospital last night for treatment of bacterial meningitis and died a few hours later. 26 other people were tested who had come in contact with the young man, but no other cases were diagnosed. It’s unclear if the case is related to three other meningitis cases reported recently in the Manchester area. Delaware County Health officials say any child between the ages of two and 18 should get immunized. Jane Sherman of the Manchester Regional Medical Center says while it’s important to get kids immunized, it’s not that easy to catch the disease. The disease is caught through direct contact with someone who’s infected. Sherman says you won’t catch the disease just by being in the same place as someone who has meningitis.A Linn County 17-year-old died last night, hours after he entered a Cedar Rapids hospital with the disease.
