ISU to expand football stadium, add basketball facilities

June 19, 2000 By admin

Iowa State University officials today announced plans for an addition to Jack Trice Stadium and construction of a practice facility for basketball and volleyball. I-S-U athletic director Gene Smith says the 14-million dollar expansion will enclose the south end of the stadium. Smith says the addition will allow for further expansion into an upper deck if it’s needed.Smith says private donations will finance the expansion. Smith says more than ten million dollars has been committed to the project already. Cyclone basketball coach Larry Eustachy says the practice facility will be of greatest benefit in the off-season. He says that’s when they have problems finding a place for players to work out.Eustachy says the new facility will have the greatest impact in recruiting. He says it will pull the school up with the best in the country.Eustachy says projects like this come about when athletic programs have success. He says spirits are high after two great seasons by the men’s and women’s programs and he says interest is high in football.Officials hope the project is completed in time for the 2002 football season.
