Governor Tom Vilsack is hoofing his way through some western Iowa towns today in a week-long walking, running and talking tour. Vilsack began his day in Turin and is spending the mid-day in Castana. His goal is to walk or run 25 miles a day and plant a tree in each town. The Governor will be in Mapleton at five o’clock according to Mavis Skow, who’s lived in Mapleton for 37 years. She says the governor will visit the recently renovated swimming pool and will present the city with a flag.Grand Junction City clerk Jean Tuhm says the town of eight-hundred will welcome the Governor at about 7:30 tonight.Vilsack has billed this as his opportunity to hear what Iowans are thinking about a variety of issues, such as teacher pay, but Tuhm says Grand Junction residents really don’t have an “issues” agenda for the Governor’s visit. On Tuesday, Vilsack will visit Beaver, Ogden, Boone and Mason City. Vilsack will be traveling by car from Boone to Mason City — it’s way too far to walk or run.
