Man sues truck driver over accident

June 24, 2000 By admin

A 19-year-old eastern Iowa man is suing a semi-truck driver for an accident that happened last month in Linn County. Two people were killed in the wreck of a car and a tanker truck on “Jappa Road” near Ely. 19-year-old Casey Petlon of Ryan was injured in the crash and he is suing the driver of the truck, 33-year-old Michael Wasowicz, as well as the truck’s owner. The driver of the car, 19-year-old Nicholas Meyer, and a passenger, 18-year-old Allen Chapman, were killed in the accident. Both were from Manchester. Petlon and 17-year-old Brian Brown of Stanwood were passengers in the car and were taken to Cedar Rapids hospitals with serious injuries. Investigators says the semi was traveling north on southbound roadway, applying a dust control chemical to the road. Nine citations were issued against Wasowicz after the accident.
