About two-hundred members of the Iowa Air Guard’s 185th fighter wing in Sioux City will soon be in the Caribbean, looking for drug-runners. The group leaves Sunday for a seven-week mission. Lieutenant Colonel Gary Cranmer says six F-16s from Iowa will be part of U-S drug interdiction efforts.This is not the first time Iowa Air Guard members have participated in the drug sweep, but it is the first time they’ve operated out of the island of Curacao.Cranmer, who will be one of the pilots involved, says he’ll be looking for suspicious aircraft flying out of Columbia and Venezula.Cranmer says the F-16s are already on their way to the island. Support staff and cargo will leave Sioux City Sunday morning at six a.m. Curacao is an island in the Netherlands Antilles in the southern Caribbean.
