Iowa’s Lieutenant Governor intends to develop some anti-violence proposals for the 2001 Iowa Legislature, and hiring more state child abuse investigators may be one of her recommendations. Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson says the January beating death of Spirit Lake toddler Shelby Duis highlighted some of the problems state child abuse investigators face.She says they’ve asked an outside agency to do a review of the D-H-S.Pederson says she wants to make specific recommendations for reducing the amount of child abuse, domestic abuse and elder abuse in Iowa.Pederson says raising the conscience of Iowans is part of the effort.Pederson made her comments during taping of the Iowa Public Television program, “Iowa Press.”
