The largest hot rod and custom car show in the Midwest is underway this weekend at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The “Good Guys” show in Des Moines brings in more than 25-hundred gleaming, rumbling vehicles — some of them that are more than 80 years old that still look brand new.John Drummond is a spokesman for the California-based Good Guys organization. He says this purely American pastime of hot rodding is perfect for the Independence Day weekend in the heart of the country. In addition to the hundreds of sparkling vehicles, Drummond says there will be live rock-and-roll music, a large exhibit of car-related toys, a swap meet and an arts and crafts festival. Besides being the largest show of its kind in the region, Drummond says it’s also the most expensive. He says all the cars together probably add up to 75-million dollars. The show is open: today from 8 to 8 and Sunday from 8 to 3. For information, call (515) 262-3111.
