Vilsack heads the 24-state ethanol coalition which met at the National Governor’s Association meeting in Pennsylvania. Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson and Illinois Governor Jim Ryan blame the recent gas price crisis on the federally-mandated switch to a new ethanol blend in cities like Milwaukee and Chicago.Vilsack, who’s a democrat, says the two Republican Governors of Illinois and Wisconsin are attacking the Democrat-run Clinton Administration in hopes of helping Republican presidential candidate George W.
