Conservation officials meet in Michigan

Conservation officials from Iowa and seven other states are meeting in Michigan, mapping out ideas for preserving Midwest soils. Bill Bennett, president of the Conservation districts of Iowa, is there.Bennett says there are all sorts of new ideas for soil conservation, with an emphasis on how it can help improve water quality.Bennett says soil conservation practices aren’t just for farms, he says urban sprawl creates a lot of runoff.Bennett raises crops and livestock, but he’s also a tree farmer near Elgin. The Midwest Conservationists’ meeting in Michigan started Sunday and ends tomorrow.
