The success of the Iowa State University Women’s basketball program continues to pay dividends for the school. The NCAA Women’s Basketball Committee has recommended that Iowa State host the Midwest Regional in 2003. ISU Senior Associate Athletic Director Elaine Heiber is on the committee. She says the recommendation virtually assures the Cylcones of hosting.Iowa State has hosted first and second round games the last three years — setting attendance records in the process. Heiber says that helped them get the regional. She says experience hosting other NCAA Championships also helped.Iowa State could realistically win first and second round games in Ames and then play in the regional again on their home floor, as a new rule preventing that from happening is effective until after 2003.The other proposed regional sites for 2003 are Dayton, Tennessee and Stanford.
