Harkin says the army is expert as losing stuff

July 19, 2000 By admin

The U-S Army lost track of nearly nine-hundred-million dollars worth of equipment last year according to a federal report being released today by Senator Tom Harkin. The Iowa democrat says some of the equipment lost was sensitive and classified, and the Army destroyed records preventing investigation or accountability. He says some of the things lost are huge, such as an engineer to a truck.Harkin released another report from the General Accounting Office last year about the Navy’s losses — which totaled more than three billion dollars. He says if Wal-Mart ran its business like the Pentagon, it’d go broke.Harkin says he’ll work to create new legislation that will hold the Pentagon more accountable for its equipment and the taxpayers’ money.
