Crane collapses in New Providence killing one

July 21, 2000 By admin

One man died, two others were injured Thursday when a crane collapsed in central Iowa. The Chief Deputy for the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department, Don Orgel, says the accident happened around 10 a-m in New Providence as the men were putting up a new water tower. Orgel says the three men were all trying to get the tower into place and it was almost there when the crane tipped over. The crane came from an Ames company, but Orgel says all three men were from out-of-state. Orgel says state investigators will be on the scene today to try and determine what caused the accident.
