Group seeks changes in Medicare

July 21, 2000 By admin

Pharmaceutical companies, businesses and other organizations have joined forces to create a lobbying group called “Citizens for Better Medicare.” The group’s spokeswoman, Dorcas Hardy, is in Iowa today.Hardy says the group does not favor expanding Medicare to cover the costs of prescription drugs for all seniors. She says the coverage needs to be part of comprehensive reform as opposed to a piecemeal approach. The G-O-P proposal would have private insurance companies provide prescription drug coverage to the poorest Medicare recipients. Hardy says her group is pushing for administrative streamlining in Medicare.Hardy is the former C-E-O of the Social Security Administration.
