Iowa’s pheasant harvest dropped this year, taking the state out of first place for the first time since 1995. Iowa Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Biologist Todd Bogenschutz says poor weather is part of the reason.Bogenschutz says there are also fewer places for the birds to develop with the loss of set-aside acres. The pheasant harvest was nearly 900-thousand, a drop of 27-percent from last year. Bogenschutz says it already looks like Iowa could make a run on getting back on top in the new season this fall as projections call for an increase in birds.South Dakota took the top spot in the pheasant harvest last year with an estimated one-and-a-half million birds bagged.
