One of the 13-thousand cyclists gathered in Council Bluffs for this week’s RAGBRAI died in an accident Saturday afternoon. 53-year-old Carl Cutchins of Amherst, Massachusetts, died in an accident at the beginning of The Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa, or RAGBRAI. Authorities say Cutchins lost control of his bike, hit a concrete guard rail and fell into the path of a pick-up truck. The accident happened about a mile from a campgrounds used by riders. According to the Des Moines Register, 17 people have died in RAGBRAI’s 28-year history.
