Education pioneer dies

A pioneer in Iowa education has died.Walter Cunningham became the first African American principal in Iowa in 1976. Cunningham was the principal at Waterloo East High School until 1989 when he became Deputy Superintendant for Waterloo Schools. He retired in 1997. Cunningham’s funeral is scheduled for Friday.
