The state high school baseball tournament opens today in Marshalltown and Carroll. In Class 2-A at Marshalltown, third-ranked Carlisle opens against Colfax-Mingo. For Carlisle, it is a second straight trip to the tournament but coach Gary Baker says this is a much different team after they lost several seniors.Despite the close proximity to Colfax-Mingo, the teams have not met this season.Baker says in the first round every team will battle jitters.The 1-A quarterfinal round is in Carroll. Sixth-ranked Lynnville-Sully takes on Rockford in the nightcap. Coach Mike Miller’s team comes into the tournament on a roll. They’ve won their last 14 games dating back to the middle of June.Miller will send ace Eric DeJong to the mound in the first game.Miller says his whole focus is on winning the first game.
