Canine confrontations worry meter readers

July 27, 2000 By admin

Iowa mail carriers aren’t the only ones having trouble with pouncing pooches. Meter readers across the state are encountering more dogs who don’t want them to do their jobs. Kevin Waetke is a spokesman for MidAmerican Energy.Waetke says the canine confrontations can be avoided if people would tie up the dogs on the day the meter readers visit. He says his company lets you know ahead of time when the meter reader will be at your home at the bottom of your bill.Waetke says it’s your responsibility to make sure utility workers have safe access to your meter.Waetke says even if you think your dog is friendly — it may view the meter reader as a stranger and attempt to keep them off your property.
