A democrat state legislator from Des Moines has been found guilty of making obscene phone calls. A Warren County judge today issued the ruling against Michael Cataldo. Four women testified last month that they had received late-night telephone calls that were sexually explicit. G-T-E traced the calls to a cell phone owned by Cataldo. A Warren County Sheriff’s Deputy testified that Cataldo admitted he had made the calls. Cataldo took the stand in his own defense and denied ever making the obscene phone calls. A cell phone expert hired by Cataldo testified that Cataldo’s cell phone could have been cloned, as there were some discrepancies on Cataldo’s phone bills. With the guilty verdict, Cataldo faces up to 30 days in jail and a two-hundred-dollar fine. The state representative narrowly won a democratic primary in June and there is no republican running against him in the fall election.
