Iowan seeks to boost trade

August 3, 2000 By admin

The Iowan who’s the former president of the American Farm Bureau has formed a new organization called “The Truth About Trade.” Dean Kleckner, who still owns a farm near Rudd, Iowa, is at the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia to counter the anti-trade messages of some protestors.Kleckner will go to the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, as he suspects more protests there, similar to what happened at the World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle.Kleckner, who now lives in Des Moines, is soliciting financial support for the new group from both farmers and agri-businesses. Five Iowa farmers presently serve on “The Truth About Trade” board of directors, but Kleckner intends to solicit membership throughout the Midwest.
