Communities focus on Main Street this month

Communities from Iowa’s largest to smallest are focusing on their Main Streets during August as part of the first-ever Iowa Downtown Month. State officials say there are 94 seperate town events during the 31 days.Jane Seaton is a spokeswoman for Main Street Iowa at the Iowa Department of Economic Development. She says there are all sorts of musical performances, street festivals, sweet corn feeds and even a murder mystery cruise.Seaton says the events are designed to celebrate the role of downtowns in Iowa, to encourage improvements and further development, and to recognize downtown’s heritage and heroes.For more information, surf to “www.state.is.us/ided/crd/mainstreet/new.html” or call (515) 242-4756.
