Iowa City woman has close call with car and water

An Iowa City woman was literally inches from drowning yesterday in the Iowa River. Sherrie Bollinger and her family were at a boat ramp when the car popped out of gear and rolled into the water. Sherrie’s father, John, says his daughter tried to stop the car and quickly found herself pinned underneath.Iowa City firefighter John Kelly says when his crew hit the scene, the car’s axle was resting on Bollinger’s chest and the back of her head and ears were underwater.Firefighters got the woman out after raising both sides of the car. Kelly says fire crews were close to the scene and reacted quickly to the situation.Bollinger had no serious injuries.
