Hotel helps healthcare in Cedar Rapids

August 14, 2000 By admin

An eastern Iowa hotel wants to raise at least a thousand dollars for a free medical clinic in Cedar Rapids. The Howard Johnson Inn plans to donate more than half of every overnight stay to the clinic at the Jane Boyd Community Center. Participant Maggie Freeman also teaches at the center and knows the clinic is a big community asset. The free clinic serves those without health insurance every Monday and Thursday. Freeman says the fundraiser is a good way to get other people involved who can’t always participate in charity walks or runs.Pat Watson owns the Howard Johnson in Cedar Rapids and says they could’ve picked any charity, but they had a close connection to the free clinic.Organizers say the demand for the clinic’s services has grown since it opened in 1992.
