More Century Farms recognized

August 15, 2000 By admin

The owners of over 300 Iowa farms were recognized today at the Iowa State Fair. The farms have been in the same family for 100 or more years and the owners were presented special plaques designating their land as a “Century Farm.”Joan Kiernan oversees the Century Farm program. She says there are currently 13-thousand-558 Centur Farms in Iowa, including the 376 being added this year. Kiernan says today’s ceremony celebrates the 25th anniversary of recognizing Century Farms in Iowa.Kiernan says the number of farms added to the list has grown as farmers learn about the program. Kiernan says it’s important to recognize these farms and families as the state has lost thousands of other farms over the last several years.
