Watkins ends testimony in murder case

August 16, 2000 By admin

The Spirit Lake woman accused of killing her two-year-old daughter completed her testimony in Algona this morning. Watkins admitted having no close contact with Shelby Duis for 19 hours prior to the girl’s death. She noticed no changes in Duis’ behavior, even though day care workers said they had seen significant changes. An investigator from the Department of Human Services also testified that abuse was clearly going on, even though it wasn’t identified at first.
